Summer of Color - Pink!

It's that time again! The summer is full of color and this week I worked with some pink inspiration. So fun...so girly.
I love pink
I guess I should say that I love pink...now. As a little girl, I was not dripping in the color. My mom did not deck me out in pink head to toe. My love affair with pink did not start until later...until I was older, an adult...when I became Mama to this little angel...

After this little one's arrival you would have thought a pink tornado whipped through my house. :) Oh yes, this one was dressed in pink...head to toe.
Even her tiny hair clips were pink, and later her cowboy hats.

So, needless to say I fell in love with pink & she did too. I still love pink (and paint with it A LOT), but lately my heart has been stolen by turquoise. But let's not tell that to Pink. ;)

I had lots of grandiose plans for pink this week & wanted to tackle the challenge (somehow using wax).
But, the week ran away too quickly! I ended up working on a fairy/angel princess in my journal. I think she still needs some words. I'll get to that later.

I used acrylics, pencil, watercolor crayons, book pages, and some sparkle.

I want to thank you for all the wonderful, sweet comments. I can not express enough how they warm my heart. Seriously.
I love every. single. one.
Traveling around to all the other artsy, creative blogs is super fun too!
Super huge thanks and hugs to Kristin - our ever sweet
Summer of Color hostess. :)

What about you?
Do you like pink? I won't hold it against you if you don't. ;)

Happy First Day of Summer!!

My little kiddie got out of school at the end of May...so we have been all about summer lately. But, just some happy summer wishes on this
first official day of summer.

May summer be filled with...
watermelon,
flip flops & tank tops,
BBQs
fun in the sun,
sprinkler's
pool splashes,
cute summer dresses,
bike rides,
picnics,
lazy beach days,
and tons of giggles.

What are your summer plans?

Smiles,
Jen :)

Summer of Color - Green

Now green is a hard color for me. Only because I don't typically paint with it as often as other colors. I do really like green though & found it around my house quite a bit. So I apparently like to decorate with it! :) When I do paint with green, I tend to pull out my Americana Hauser Light Green - not to bright...not too dark. When Kristin chose green this week, I thought, "Hmmm, WHAT can I do?" But that is what I will enjoy about this color challenge...it forces me to use a color I may not typically.

Funny thing is...I decided pretty quickly what to do. Since I like decorating with green...why not combine the two. My son's room has a safari/jungle theme in it & I have been wanting to paint something to hang in his room. The bedding is mainly white, brown & a really nice green. I wanted to pull some more color into his room since it has tons of brown. I used his cute comforter as inspiration & created two animal pieces for his wall above what will soon be his toddler bed. (Thank goodness he has continued to sleep in his crib & has not discovered how to climb out....yet!)

Bedding inspiration
Getting started

I used green mainly in the background. I was basing the color scheme of the animals off the bedding. I think they turned out cute, they were super fun to make, and they look darling hanging in my little LoveBug's room.

I created the background, then used patterned scrapbook paper (another addiction!) to make the animals as well as the border. Once it was dry I added acrylic paint to the paper to give it a more "painted" look. After that, I just used my black and white pen to add detail.
Hanging on the wall
I made an elephant too. :)

And there you have it.
Some much needed color added to my toddler's room.
I am glad the Summer of Color challenge was green this week. Otherwise this project would have sat on my mile long "To Do' list longer! :)

I am looking forward to seeing all the other green creations.
Do you like creating with green?

XOXO,
Jen

Summer of Color - Blue!

Oh how I love blue. It is my new color crush. So much to swoon over really....turquoise, aqua, baby, periwinkle, robin's egg... and so on. I use it in almost every piece I do. So when blue was chosen as the first color for Kristin's Summer of Color, this little lady was very excited. So I whipped out every shade of blue I had & then sat and stared at my journal. I mean, I sat for quite a bit. Just looking at the white page. Nothing. Zip. Blank. So I figured I needed a little more time & went to finish laundry. Oh Joy! :)

But, soon enough I gained back my artist "swagger" & threw down some color. :) This is the first page of my journal. She is cute enough & needs some words added to her. But, for some reason I just didn't love her.

So I started to sketch....

Then added some blue acrylic, watercolor crayon, and my fav Faber-Castell Pitt pen (I love these!!) Of course some stamps (I think I have an addiction to clear rubber stamps..anyone else?) & rub ons were added too.

She Knew How to Fly

Ahhh, I like her much better.
I am looking forward to this coming week and the color GREEN
I don't use green much, but I am up for the challenge.

What does the color green make you think of?

The Summer of Color

I love color.
Isn't it amazing how a colorful bouquet of flowers, or a pretty turquoise necklace, or a apothecary jars filled with citrus fruit can brighten up your day.
Immediate mood enhancer right?

So me...the lover of color.. wears a lot of black & neutrals - go figure.
I do, however dream about cute summer sandals...

 Or vibrant red jackets

And me...the lover of color..has dreams of rooms like this...

Tons of cottage white... dreamy.
But, I love color. :)

So, I am excited that Kristin over at Twinkle, Twinkle has started her
Summer of Color.
What a super fun way to create some art, connect, share, and grow. Each week she will give a color prompt for everyone to work on and then you can come back to link up your projects.
She is even doing some giveaways too. Great, right?
I am really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with this week.
We are starting off with blue.
My favorite color right now (it changes!) is turquoise, so I LOVE that.
We can create anything our little heart's desire. I am not sure what I will work on. I am sure it will include my XL mixed media journal from Canson, canvas, acrylics, and watercolor crayons. We'll see what else.
Come join us for a Summer of Color.

What colors are brightening up your days of summer??

XOXO,
Jen

A Painted Boy...

I don't usually paint little boys.
And I thought...I need to paint a little something for my Love Bug.
I didn't want him to look back and see all these painted pieces
with his sister in mind & not him.
I just can't help myself really....I like girlie, and pink, and sparkles, and cute hair, and empowering words & phrases (for woman), and butterflies, and big sweet eyes...see what I mean.
Total Girl
So I made a little boy, like the little girl I worked on the other day.

 He's a cutie...just like my sweet boy.
It was super fun to work on...so maybe there are some more boys
in the future. :)

*Also - Thank you so much for your sweet comments. My little blog has brought me tons of joy & lots of smiles. It means the world to me that you stop by, read, comment, and share your lives through your blogs with me.
Thank you!

**OK, and  seriously getting exciting for this & this

Hugs & Sparkles!
